A brief interlude of peace and prosperity across Western Europe, La Belle Époque spun a spirit of frivolity and optimism, reflected by the art (and drinks) of the era. The horrors of The Great War were far in the distance, and hedonism reigned supreme.

What goes up, must come down. The laissez-faire lifestyle has ended, and booze is the dock. Watch as bartending goes guerrilla, hiding in basements and bathtubs. Cocktails turn technicolour in this heady blur of tropical tastes. Fast forward to the height of the contemporary craze, where modern classics are cemented in the canon, and influences drawn from all around.

While Cruise entertains the masses with his garish antics, a quiet core of bartenders is re-discovering the techniques and standards of their forebears. The Cocktail is dead – long live The Cocktail.
